Helping Kids Make Healthy Choices

DESCRIPTION

In 2012 IDEO designers wanted to take on a challenge of how kids may be supported in making better decisions around food and being active? After a two-day brainstorming and prototyping session the designers moved forward with three concepts that addressed this challenge from three completely different directions. The first one is Presso, a set of child-size kitchen tools that slice and prepare fresh food in imaginative ways, making cooking fun and helping kids feel more conscious in making their own healthy food. The second proposal is Daredevils, a device worn on one’s wrist that measures the intensity of energy exerted. Instead of prescribing particular activities, it rather sets up certain challenges and encourages kids to dare each other to reach the activity goals. The third option is Top Chops, a set of cooking adventures for kids who work toward becoming a Top Chop “master chef.”

JUSTIFICATION

The project was designed for the youngest group and addressing important topics of healthy food and being active. A good example of SRD that resulted in three prototypes of various products, plays and gadgets.
