The Fotile CookTop

DESCRIPTION

The problem addressed by the project was that in China, most kitchen appliances available on the market are rooted in Western cooking practices and are not suitable for the unique needs of traditional Chinese cooking culture (e.g. a wok). High-end kitchen appliance company Fotile, based in Ningbo, China, was looking to offer a solution that would satisfy these needs. IDEO was then invited to design a dual-cooking center that allows dedicating one side to the wok and the other side to a Western-style flat-bottom pan. Thanks to this solution Fotile strengthened their position on the market by offering a new product that was really tailored to the needs of its users.

JUSTIFICATION

The success of this project depended on a properly defined problem – the need to design a product that would support Chinese cooking traditions and, on the other hand, would be a functional and modern appliance. The Design Thinking methodology led to successful implementation of this project and allowed Fotile to enhance their market presence.
