"Open To Society", the website of Royal Academy of Arts, UK

DESCRIPTION

The idea of the project was to create a new website for Royal Academy of Arts with the key assumption to make it better accessible to people, artist, society. The Design Thinking methodology was used. The project was implemented by IDEO. Interviews with the website users showed that they were looking for something more than simple information on the opening hours or tickets. Many users wished a closer link to art and artists to learn how they work and what inspires them. That is why the Academy decided to become more open to the society by showing their work behind the scenes: preparation of exhibitions, employees’ daily routine. The navigation through the website is now much simpler and the website itself has a new design. It offers now a fresh experience to the visitors who may find information on the exhibitions, administration and news about the Academy and the Artists. Redesigning the website is just the first step. The Academy has also enhanced its presence in social media.

JUSTIFICATION

As a result of the project Royal Academy of Arts achieved the desired goals. It is now more open to the society and shows its less formal face. The new website improved communication among the visitors, artists and the staff of the Academy.
